Atmosphere
Lots of fun. Great atmosphere as all the 5 legs pass through the Start/Finish area. Plenty of action and lots of cheering.
This race is very popular with Calgary runners and it's a good chance to see some familiar faces if you have been racing through the season.
Good draw prizes and each team entry includes a buffet lunch for each runner. Awards are presented inside the gym.

Overview
As of April 2008 the Banff Ekiden race appears to have joined the ever expanding deadpool of local races.
The Banff Ekiden Relay race is a great end of season 5 person relay race. The start/finish area is outside the Sally Borden Recreation Building at The Banff Centre. Each of the 5 legs start and finish here with every runner having to run up the same tough hill (St. Julien Road) at the end of their leg. This is event was originally run by the Banff Centre itself as a fundraising event but is now organized by the Banff Ski Runners (cross country ski club) and the profits from the race now go towards their fundraising efforts.
