Overview

The Fenland trail is a flat, gentle trail that loops through a marshy woodland area. There are several spots that offer great views. For such a short trail it's quite amazing the variation in landscape and scenery.

Trailhead

There are 3 entry/exit points to the Fenland Trail.

The main trailhead is just a few minutes from the centre of town at the Forty Mile picnic area, just past the Recreation Centre but before the Trans Canada Highway. You can also enter the trail about 50 metres after crossing the railroad tracks. The third point joins onto the Vermillion Lakes Road and allows you to use the Fenland Trail as a shortcut to this area.

Trail

The trail is flat and easy and non-technical. Don't let this put you off though as it is a beautiful trail and can be run at any time of the year. You are likely to see lots of other people from locals walking dogs to families on rented bikes so look out for other trail users. You can link this trail to the Bow River Trail and the Vermillion Lakes Road to form part of a much longer run.

Safety

You should watch for wildlife on this trail, it is common to see elk here and they like to use this trail during calving season which often leads to a trail closure to ensure public safety and allow them some space to give birth.
